Words+Pictures...a family update

Wow has this school year ever flown by! Week One is over and only 7 more remain for the year...well 5.5 if you take into account the kids will miss a week and a half when we head to QLD in November for a wedding! Can't wait...a whole week staying a broadbeach, visiting theme parks, chilling out & catching up with some of my favourite girls!

We had 2 lots of visitors during the holidays which was great and then I packed the kids in the car and headed south, we turned right at port augusta (usually we turn left) and spent a few days taking in the sea air and view in Port Lincoln & stayed with my dad. Most of the pics of the kids were taken by my baby sister Jess when I handed her the camera and told her to go for it while the kids played in the playground.I love love love this photo...it's imperfect I suppose, but it's them, a perfectly posed photo wouldn't capture them as they are and their different relationships and personalities but to me this does and the more I look at it the more I love it. I can't wait to scrap it...I have just the layout planned!

The kids were playing with the dress ups one day and came across the tiny santa hat and put it on J who posed for us. She is growing so fast...this photo was taken 18days ago...the white button up thing doesn't fit any more...those buttons don't reach each other by a few inches...and she only just had it on last week!
My baby boy is growing up too, that has really struck me in a few of the photos I've taken recently. He's toilet trained...day & night...he took to it like a duck to water once he had decided the time was right. He talks non stop and comes to me saying 'i need a hug' about 50 times a day...i love that because i know before long he won't be wanting those constant hugs anymore. He loves going to the library...so much...tuesday is library day, he had his lunchbox packed monday morning 'go library mum?'...'No Bastian, tomorrow mate'...tears :( ... Friday we had the same routine except we avoided the tears because were off to the park for a picnic lunch instead. He ran around like a mad thing with his mate Matthew for 2 hours and then fell asleep in the car when we were picking up the girls from school. His day sleeps during the week have been few and far between...he catches up on the weekend with 2.5-3 hours both days...but I would love it if he'd spread it out and give an hour or 2 a couple of times a week. He has also started some very boisterous boy behaviour...that can make it tough to put J down to get things done. She's his #1 wrestling partner and she is pretty tolerant to a point...problem is that point is about 60 seconds after he first starts 'hugging' her. When he is doing silly things, especially dancing & singing, she watches him with THE most adoring expression on her face, you can see her thinking 'i want to be JUST like him!'
Charlotte is kind of driving me crazy at the moment, don't get me wrong I love her to bits but man o man has she had some challenging times over the last few months. She is developing a certain level of perfectionism that she didn't used to exhibit and that in itself causes problems...she is fine until something goes wrong or doesn't go her way and then things might build up a little and then meltdown....she's not all that keen on change and doesn't like being taken out of her own environment very much, especially if we are somewhere and Steven is at home. When she's got it together she is kind and loving and helpful and the total opposite to all the tough stuff. The talking back from both of the girls has got me a bit of a loss...the pair of them can be quite a formidable force! I guess that's one of the things about kids they grow and change and there are tough times and there are great times.
The sweet fairy baby...she has a teeny tiny bottom tooth now, she cut it on Wednesday or Thursday...it's sharp! She will be 6 months old this week...that time has just flown by. She can sit. She loves to weight bear and will jump up and down on your lap for longer than your arms can manage it. She has a few favourite toys and I swear that her arm span is a good 2 metres all around from the point she is sitting...nothing is safe. She grabs everything, she especially loves faces. She loves having a couple of pieces of paper to shake and scruch. She passes items between her hands and, of course, gives them a good old suck & chew. She's not so keen on her tummy but she doesn't get a whole lot of time to try it out becuase she is usually joined by one of her well meaning siblings fairly shortly after she is put on the floor...that can be pretty frustrating because she will sit and play happily for ages by herself as long as she can see me. She has some serious separation anxiety going on, lots of crying when I leave the room. She is developing a fairly husky voice...she squeaks and squeals alot, very very cute. She doesn't laugh all that often still but when she does it is beautiful.
Beautiful Lil, see that top middle tooth on the left...it's days away from falling out, I am going to cry when it does. I have never cried before when a tooth has fallen out but I'm not going to take this one quite so well. Lil has had the most perfect, straight, white baby teeth...and after how the bottom 2 have come through I am a little worried about the top ones...crooked city! She's reading level 19/20 at school, can out-maths Charlotte alot of the time and is quite the skipper. She loves craft activites and can sit and concentrate on them for quite long stretches. She still doesn't cope with being tired...so tired lil+moody charlotte+boisterous bastian can make for some crazy crazy days...luckily it isn't often that they are all in a bad mood!

Steven is busy at work, that never changes...i'm busy too...that to do list never seems to get any shorter lol! I've started teaching my classes, so happy with how they have been going. I have set up my class blog here. Some peeks at the Flyaway Birdie class in a bag I have put together and had on sale today at market day...there are still a couple left if you are interested.

I won embellished idol...when i entered i seriously never entertained the idea that i would, it was an awesome comp, i had a ball! Thankyou again to everyone who participated and voted and made the comp what it was!

I've been shortlisted for masters, along with my fantastic sister, so so proud of her, and lots of my scrappy friends from all over the place. The top 10 are going to be awesome whoever they may be judging from all the talented people on that list!

The 12 weeks of christmas has started on the Addicted to craft blog, a new fun challenge and awesome inspiration each week for 12 weeks and lots of great prizes to be won!

That's enough rambling for now! Will have some more scrappy shares soon.
Have a great weekend

The Final Final

So...who would have thought it....Lou & I tied so had to go back in and do battle in a tiebreaker LOL! I was pretty excited to finish with one of my great scrappy buddies!!

I started something different yesterday but kinda got scared because I am going to try a technique on it i've never tried before and didn't want to screw it up LOL...so I had a bit more of a think and went back to the drawing board and this came out pretty much how I pictured it...although I did plan on putting more pics on it, I loved it most with just my fave :)

I used lots of pieces of new Sass Lass PP's to put the heart together, the turquoise base is new sass lass too. Alphas include 2 types of thickers, new cosmo cricket chippies and some Sass Lass stickers. A few brads and chippie elements to add some detail and also some of those sass lass whimsy die cuts on the heart. A nice big bow and a bit of handstitching (around the PP heart and along the ribbon) to finish off.

Lil's class had to present Mass the friday before Fathers day and their teacher put together a slideshow with a photo of each child with their dad and then combined it with a voice track of each completing 'I love my dad because...' Lil's answer was '..he loves me'.

So there you have it!

We have my gorgeous sister Sam, her DH & my niece Delilah (that's her in 'little free spirit')...we went to the park for a picnic today and I got lots of new pics of the kids...including our very clever baby girl who can sit!!! Will share them soon when I get a chance to sort and downsize some to upload!

Loving that it's a long weekend too so we have Steven home for an extra day :) Time to go sort out dinner...BBQ tonight because it has been a gorgeous day and what better way to celebrate the start of daylight savings!

Thanks for dropping by....and don't forget to vote for your favourite in the final final!!

Final round of Idol, Scraptapestry & Addicted to craft

I don't mind saying that i was tickled pink to make it through to the last round of embellished idol with 2 other talented and very deserving chickes Lou & Skye. It has been a fabulous competition with so many participants who could just have easily made up the top 3! There has been so much inspiration along the way and I have loved the weekly challenges (and deadlines lol). Big thankyou to Ali and the Embellished DT for hosting the comp!

So here is my layout...criteria were 5 Patterned Papers, 4 Alphas, 3 Ribbons, 2 Pics & a single chippie element.I am having a bit of a love affair with those prima sprays...after having one from addicted to craft then getting a couple at Creative Edge and another 1 or 2 at Seriously Scrapbooking...they are something I couldn't really picture myself using until I did...they are such a simple, effective way to add a bit of wow factor to your page, and because you are only using one of them rather than an assortment of embellies they even seen reasonably cost effective...maybe...LOL!

Anyways Lou & Skye have outdone themselves and I am sure that the voting will be down to the wire so go and check the entries out in the Embellished forum here then follow the link to vote for your favourite!

Something I have been meaning to share for ages is the work I have done for Scraptapestry. Naomi sent me the first mini kit with this gorgeous birdcage minialbum and yummy BG Lemonade PP's. I got to work with the kit...here is my main mini album

From the kit I also put together a second mini album full of my favourite photos from July and 2 layouts. One has been picked up for publication but I will share the other and the second mini in my next post :) The first mini album kit is sold out with a new one on sale now. These kits are fantastic value for money and Naomi has beautiful taste in selecting the products and the way she packages it all up is just divine!

Last but not least it was my turn to share some creations using MME Pretty Please on the addicted to craft blog.

These PP's are gorgeous but for some reason I was struggling with them a bit...I even scrapped a LO and then pulled it apart and started again, that is pretty rare for me. In the end I was pleased with how my layouts ended up!

I pretty well went back to basics to get the foundation for 'Little Sucker'. I am really loving that clean & simple American style right now so I put together the base, add the pic with a transparent overlay, another gorgeous Prima spray...this time a lily one...for somw va va voom, title & strip journalling and it worked out a WHOLE lot better than my first attempt LOL!

Next is l&j. I wanted to contrast the sweetness of the PP's against something a bit rougher and this Hambly Woodgrain PP was the perfect candidate! I added some MME lace trim and the wide vintage lace together with a prima frille...yum!
In our Addicted to Craft DT kits Luisa has been very generous with the prima paper flowers and so I have quite a pile of them. I am going to have a go at replicating the Frilles by layering some with fabric...will let you know how I go. I learnt some fabulous flower altering techniques from Janine at creative edge so I'm off for a play right now!

It is the first day of school holidays, baby J is asleep and the kids seem to be raiding the kitchen for cutlery & dishes to take outside for who knows what purpose...they are probably going camping...better go and find out LOL! I have been looking forward to the holidays...I really need to get some new pics of the kids, especially of Lil because she is so so close to loosing her top teeth, she has been such a good girl about not wobbling them with a bit of pleading from me...am seriously going to cry when she does....I'm not really that much of a sentimental person to cry when my children loose teeth but hers are perfect and I don't want to loose that :(

Anyways thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!

4 more rounds of idol + my first few classes

We have just gotten home from a week in adelaide...I'll fill in on the details of that once I have downloaded some pics...I have some beautiful new ones of J & Lil! 2 of the higlights were the 2 sundays...both required early starts...yesterday Lauren and I walked the 12km city-bay (and I am a little sore and creaky today let me tell you!) and the Sunday before we went to creative edge, with classes taught by Kate Mason, Steph Devlin & Janine Koczwara...'twas heavenly playing with all that prima and fabulous to catch up with Sonia & Michelle and meet Lisa!

So for now I have a few scrappy shares :)

I have made it to round 8 of embellished Idol, this weeks challenge was to create a double..so, as with all doubles, working outside my comfort zone. This is a 8.5x11" of my gorgeous niece Delilah. I was inspired by the tetly free your mind ad and seeing as I was in Adelaide I made a trip to the LSS for the prima vines (which they only had in hot pink, thank heavens for paint LOL) and the K&Co butterflies that I have eyed off every time I have looked at them in there over the past months! Please excuse the 'little' typo, lucky it's an easy one to fix, except I have left the LO in Adelaide LOL!You can check out all the round 8 entries here and voting instructions are here! Again all the entries are gorgeous and I am sure it will be down to the wire as to who goes through to the last round!

Round 7 was to create some wearable art...I altered a plain black long sleeve shirt for J. It was my first attempt at making the flowers...I used a maya road chippie bird to trace the shape for the bird on the sleeve and I used bazzill stitchez templates to create the stems on the flowers.

I'm sure you'll agree she looks pretty cute wearing it, even if she does look a bit like a boy LOL! Bastian has had his haircut and they do look like 2 peas in a pod ATM!

Round 6 was some 'recipe' criteria, I created 2 layouts in the end (except I never ended up stitching on the 'favourite playground' LO after I'd decided that 'Just for fun would be my entry.

For Charlotte's birthday party we set up a 'photo booth' so that she could have her photo taken with each of her friends and we could do a group shot. These were some of the test shots before the party! I will be doing this for each of the kids' parties in the future!
These photos were taken at our favourite park in Adelaide shortly after J was born, we love going there and can spend hours just hanging out and playing! Most of the elements on this came from a Kenner Road kit.

Round 5 was to create a layout about either 5 places you want to visit or 5 things you want to do before you die. I chose to do my LO on 5 things I want to do before I die, I chose different elements for my page to represent each of those 5 things....travel africa, run a marathon, build a house, write a book and see my children grow up happy & healthy.
I have started teaching my classes in Roxby, the response has been quite overwhelming. I have taught my first 2 sessions, putting together 2 layouts in each. The first class was this layout and a second 'you are a star' which should be in the new SBM (11/8).
The second class was a little more time challenging than the first, we put together the bones of these 2 layouts but the ladies went away with a bit of homework before our next classes this week!

Love this pic of me & J.
A year old pic of lil, I scrapped it with the title 'magical' and then I found the perfect journalling for it the next day...taken from the page title 'my magical life' from her new tinkerbell diary!

but wait...there's more...

The last couple of design team challenges for Addicted to Craft...

Black Market Design ... some pics of me and my wonderful friend from school Leah taken last year at another good friends 30th ... i had a few tears scrapping this because i miss her so much! You can see what the design team did with the different papers here. The black Market papers have great texture, similar to old chatterbox papers and are fantastic for ripping & distressing!
We also had a pink + red + green challenge using some yummy Scrap within Reach Emerson papers. The colour combo worked perfectly with this pic of Lil sitting in a great big old Moreton Bay Fig Tree which is in one of the parks along the Adelaide Foreshore. I spent many many hours climbing and playing in this tree when I was a kid and it was fun seeing my kids climbing it too! You can check out the whole display of the DT's work here!

Right now on the Addicted to craft blog you can check out the work of guest design team artist Anthea Peterson! She has done some beautiful work with some different Scrap Within Reach Papers.

I'm sharing some more work on the blog this weekend...the last of my prize pack arrived from my award for excellence and it included a pack from Addicted to Craft so I thought I might as well put it to work :)

Hope that you are enjoying your week!...I'm nearly done catching up...one last scrappy share and then I will update about the family stuff!

Thanks for visiting!

And the Boxx Guest DT Chicky this month.....

is meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I got to have a play with this gorgeous boxx of scraps, perfect for scrapping some more grown up layouts!

I had a pretty tight deadline on these but luckily things fell into place quite easily when I sat down with them!

'39 Weeks' photo of my belly from the little photoshoot we had down the beach just before J was born. you can actually see her foot pressed against my belly...look just underneath the line of my shirt, right in the middle, I actually remember that she was was poking me at the time. The gorgeous Tammy Templeton pointed it out when she saw the pic (can't wait to catch up with you soon chicky xx)
Thankyou Card...I traced the Jenni Bowlin chippie heart onto the card and then cut away a section so you can see the 'other' side of the PP. Then I stuck some old music sheet to the heart with mod podge, added ribbon around the card so I could tie it shut and stitched the heart on top!

Last but not least i gathered up my leftovers and shuffled them into this layout. Love this photo of Steven & J but it reminded me that this is the last time we are planning on having a new baby in this house!
One of the things I get to do as guest DT is set the monthly sketch challenge, I chose to scrap a layout with a few smaller photos and the tell the story of how much Bastian LOVES to read to his baby sister! He cuddles her on his lap, grabs a book and insists 'my read her' or 'my read zsa zsa' (that probably the best way to spell how he says her name, and sometimes there is an 'n' on the end too). I get pushed away when I try and rescue her from his embrace but she is so calm with him now and just goes with the flow.
So here is my sketch, if you give it a go upload your entry to this thread in the boxx forum (before September 20) and you'll be in the running to win a $5 voucher :)
So that's it for now but there is STILL more to share, seriously, I have been a busy girl this last month! ...and things are going pretty well after my little leap yesterday I already have a few starters so fingers crossed my first workshop will kick off on Saturday 5th!

Hope you are having a great day!
